Hi! We are Amanda and Julianne, the dedicated art educators at Petite Art Studio!
We believe that every child is an artist and has a voice that should be heard and celebrated. By providing a calm and welcoming space, our goal is to help children find art inspiration in their own world and to ignite a lifelong love for art.
Our Stories
AMANDA
From as early as I can remember, I have enjoyed making and creating. My earliest memories are filled with art. It was in middle school where I was first encouraged by my teacher to create art about subjects I was interested in and my love of art blossomed.
I went to Boston University where I studied painting, drawing, sculpture and art history. I began working towards my BFA in graphic design, discovering a profound interest and love for visual communication. Simultaneously, I started pursing my MFA in Studio Art Teaching. During my year of student teaching, I had the privilege of working with an incredible mentor teacher. Returning to an elementary school was nostalgic and deeply fulfilling and I knew immediately that teaching was my true calling.
I became a dually certified art teacher in Massachusetts and New York, preK - 12th, and have been teaching for over twenty years, while regularly taking on a range of creative projects. Throughout the challenges life has presented me with, art has remained a vital outlet for healing, gratitude, and peace.
JULIANNE
I was always drawn to art as a child. At school, I had incredible art teachers who helped me discover that art could be a lens through which to observe the world more closely, inspiring even the most mundane curiosities. The influence of my own art teachers was transformative. Through their guidance, I began to see art as a way to record my thoughts and interests, leaving breadcrumbs of my identity and personality in each piece I created. The act of creating art became a journey of self-discovery, a way to express my emotions and document the world around me. I realized that I wanted to become an art teacher so that I can inspire others in the same way my teachers had inspired me.
My love of nature led me to SUNY New Paltz nestled amid the picturesque Shawangunk Mountains. There, I pursued a BFA in Drawing and Painting, immersing myself in the natural beauty that surrounded the campus. The mountains became my muse, and I found endless inspiration in their rugged landscapes. Alongside my BFA, I also earned a BS in Art Education and an MSEd in Art Education, equipping myself with the knowledge and skills to teach. The combination of these degrees allowed me to deepen my own artistic practice while preparing to share my passion with others. I am proud to be a NYS Certified K-5 Art Teacher and oil painter. I belong to a few local artist communities such as the Mamaroneck Artist Guild, where I serve on the board of directors. My paintings have been shown locally in institutions such as the Hudson River Museum and Edward Hopper House. I am dedicated to continuing to grow my independent oil painting practice and engage in the very same curiosities of nature, emotion, and vivid colors as I hope to inspire in my students.
